Police investigate fatal pedestrian collision

Richmond Police officers are investigating a fatal vehicle-versus-pedestrian collision in the 2300 block of Maricopa Avenue and are asking drivers to avoid the area.

Lt. Donald Patchin, a public information officer for the Richmond Police Department, said police responded early Thursday morning to reports of a collision involving a pedestrian. "Officers located an individual who was unfortunately struck by a vehicle while crossing. The victim is an adult male," Patchin said.

Maricopa Avenue will be closed between 23rd Street and 24th Street for several hours while officers investigate the crash.

Thursday's collision comes just a month after another, which took the life of an 81-year-old Richmond man who was in a crosswalk on 23rd Street when he was fatally hit by a driver who did not stop.
