Richmond police are investigating a shooting Wednesday evening in the 400 block of Wilson Avenue that left two people injured, one of whom was airlifted to a trauma center.

Lieutenant Joe England, the Richmond Police Department's public information officer, said Thursday the two victims, an adult male and an adult female, were inside their vehicle at the time of the shooting.

"The victims are now in stable condition and there are no active threats to the community," England said. "This is still an active investigation and detectives are still working this case."

The shooting was reported around 8 p.m. Wednesday, with numerous police vehicles, including units from the El Cerrito Police Department, responding to the scene where the street was taped off. The Richmond Police Department said in a statement that there are two victims, one of whom was airlifted for medical treatment. The department did not release the condition of either victim.

Police were examining a white pickup truck near the scene that appeared to have bullet holes in its windshield.

A man at the scene told the Grandview Independent he heard five gunshots, followed by a second series of about five more shots.

Police have cordoned off the area and are asking the public to stay away while the investigation continues.

Anyone who witnessed the shooting or has information is asked to call the Richmond Police Department at (510) 233-1214.
