Richmond police are investigating a shooting that left one person wounded Monday evening in the 2500 block of Duke Avenue.
Police were dispatched at 6:55 p.m. to a report of a shooting with a victim, according to dispatch records. The case was logged as attempted murder with a firearm.
Fire and ambulance radio traffic indicated the victim suffered a gunshot wound to the chest. An air ambulance was requested, and crews established a landing zone nearby.
Neighbors reported the shooting happened near the staircase leading to Highland Elementary School.
Lieutenant Joe England, Richmond public information officer, confirmed there was one shooting victim. England said the investigation remains active and the department had no additional information to release.
