Richmond officer released from hospital; suspect identified in Key Boulevard shooting

A Richmond police officer who was shot Thursday while responding to a mental health check on Key Boulevard was released from the hospital Friday, police said.

Officer Justin Church, a 25-year law enforcement veteran, was treated at a local hospital and released at about 3 p.m. Friday. His injuries were not life-threatening.

Police also identified the woman arrested following the standoff as Jasmine Robinson, 39, of Richmond.

“We are grateful that our officer has been released from the hospital and, most importantly, did not suffer life-threatening injuries,” Patchin said. “We are thankful for the care he received and continue to wish him a full and speedy recovery,” Lt. Donald Patchin said in a statement released by the department.

Robinson was booked on suspicion of attempted murder, assault with an assault weapon and kidnapping. She remains in custody on $500,000 bail, and additional charges are expected, according to Richmond police.

Police said a second officer was inside a patrol vehicle that was struck by several rounds during the incident. That officer was not injured.

Several rounds also struck neighboring homes and vehicles, but police said no other residents or personnel were injured.

Robinson was taken into custody after Richmond police crisis negotiators established contact with her and officers deployed chemical agents into the residence, according to police.
