A small group of history enthusiasts gathered at the corner of West Richmond and Washington Avenues on Friday afternoon to celebrate the placing of a plaque telling the story of the 100-year-old Santa Fe Market in Point Richmond.

The plaque, a project of the Point Richmond History Association, recognizes the market and the buildings that came before it as among the first structures in Richmond.

The market, which welcomed its first customers in 1925, was one of the few grocery stores in the burgeoning village, serving early residents who helped build the neighborhood around it and eventually the city that would become an industrial powerhouse.

Point Richmond History Association works to commemorate buildings and tell stories that help to preserve history for future generations. The group maintains a small museum at the Point Richmond Triangle with a few artifacts, photos, and many interesting stories. For more information, visit: https://www.pointrichmondhistory.org/
