The Richmond Burrito Trail discovers the essence of Sonora, Mexico, with a visit to the Mi Casita Mariscos Taqueria on San Pablo Avenue.

This “Sonora Inspired” burrito is coming in hot! We arrived back at Grandview Headquarters with a Super Shrimp Burrito still piping hot. Maybe it’s the hottest burrito we’ve had so far.

It makes sense. Shortly after ordering in the San Pablo Avenue parking lot, we heard the grill sizzling inside the food truck—sizzling for us!

The signs and banners advertised mariscos, fresh seafood, fried fish, shrimp, and fish and octopus cocktails. Mi Casita offers a host of meat. On the menu spotted chorizo, lengue, asada, pollo asado, al pastor, carnitas, birria and tripe. We went with the seafood theme and ordered a Super Camaron Burrito. Burritos come with cilantro, onions, rice beans, and pico de gallo. To make them super, cheese and sour cream are added. We don't care if we were breaking the culinary rules—it was delicious.

The slab was soupy and creamy, with tasty shrimp, fluffy Spanish rice, creamy refried beans, loads of melted cheese, and green bell peppers. Think risotto in slab form.

The shrimp were the star of this burrito, all of the ingredients performing supporting roles. The Super Camaron Burrito was on the small size at 570 grams, but it was tasty and filling.

Mi Casita Mariscos Taqueria serves up a tasty Super Camaron Burrito from an unassuming San Pablo Avenue location.

The Richmond Burrito Trail has made stops at taquerias, which originated in Tijuana, Jalisco, and now the Estado Libre y Soberano de Sonora.

The colorful Mi Casita Mariscos Taqueria food truck is halfway hidden behind a tall metal fence. The operators placed signs out front urging you in. We always take our spoils home, but Mi Casita Mariscos Taqueria offers a small dining area at the back of the empty parking lot.

Tucked away at the rear of a vacant parking lot, Mi Casita Mariscos Taqueria features a compact dining area.

One burrito costs $15.37 and comes with a load of chips and salsa. The food truck is located at 12860 San Pablo Avenue, next to the Pho Thai Hung Vietnamese restaurant.

While waiting for our order, we surveyed this stretch of The Avenue. For a "food desert," we sure have a lot of food options.

The Ricon Latino Market is directly across the street, and the La Loma market can be seen at the corner. Madni Market is one of two halal butchers in this short commercial strip of the North and East. When we suddenly need to make kuku sabzi, we can find tons of fresh herbs and fenugreek leaves within walking distance. See, we don't only eat burritos.

This is the 13th stop on the Richmond Burrito Trail. Let us know where to eat next, and check back next week to see where we land on the Richmond Burrito Trail.

The Grandview Independent has been embarking on a culinary adventure to explore every taqueria, food truck, and restaurant in Richmond. This initiative, dubbed the “Richmond Burrito Trail,” aims to showcase our city’s diverse and delectable burritos.
