The Richmond Police Department removed 71 abandoned and unregistered vehicles from city streets Wednesday as part of a targeted tow operation aimed at addressing community concerns over blight in the city’s southern district.

The operation, led by the department’s parking enforcement team, focused on cars that had been left inoperable or parked for extended periods, many with expired registrations. Police said the effort was in direct response to resident complaints and was part of an ongoing push to improve public safety and neighborhood appearance.

“These 71 vehicles, some of which were inoperable or parked for far too long, have now been towed away, paving the way for a cleaner, safer environment,” the department said in a social media post.

Officials framed the initiative as a community policing effort to keep Richmond’s neighborhoods “looking their best.”
