Richmond police are investigating a homicide in the 4500 block of Potrero Avenue, the department announced Tuesday.
Crime scene tape cordoned off the area around a home Tuesday evening, with officers stationed in the driveway and the front door open as investigators worked. A small group of people had gathered outside the residence.
Police records show officers were dispatched to the block at 9:09 p.m. Tuesday after receiving a 911 call reporting an assault and battery.
Detectives remained on scene, gathering evidence and following up on leads. The department said it would release more details "as they become available and when it is appropriate to do so without compromising the investigation."
Anyone with information is asked to contact the Richmond Police Department or submit an anonymous tip through the department's tip line.
