Richmond police arrested a suspect Wednesday morning in connection with a stabbing that left one man dead and another hospitalized late Tuesday night in the 1700 block of Wood Place.
Police say David Contreras, 30, of Richmond, stabbed both victims following an argument inside a transitional home before fleeing the scene. Contreras turned himself in Wednesday morning at the Concord Parole Office. He was arrested and booked into the Martinez Detention Facility.
Police identified the man who died as Michael Young, 59, of Martinez. A second victim was hospitalized and is listed in stable condition.
Dispatchers received a report of a stabbing at approximately 11:18 p.m. Officers and medical personnel responded and found two victims with stab wounds. Both were taken to a hospital, where one later died. The second victim is in stable condition and is expected to survive.
Homicide detectives have taken over the investigation. Police said that based on the information available, they believe the stabbing was an isolated incident and that there is no active threat to the community.
