Contra Costa Animal Services is offering free adoptions at the Martinez shelter during the month of February with the hopes of finding homes for the many pets they currently have available.
According to animal services, the shelter is full due to a high average daily intake of about 20 pets per day.
"We need your help in order to get some of our big dogs out through adoption or foster. Through February, all animals are free to adopt because our shelter is so full," the shelter's online statement says.
A representative from animal services said those interested in adopting a pet can visit the shelter during their regular business hours, select the pet of their choice, and pay only the county-required licensing fee of $25. All other fees will be waived.
