Carlson Boulevard reopened today following the completion of partial demolition of a Public Storage facility damaged in a December fire.
The roadway had been closed between Cutting Boulevard and the Pullman apartment area since the fire, with portions of Ethel Dotson South Street also closed.

Richmond City Councilmember Doria Robinson announced the demolition and Carlson Boulevard reopening on Facebook.
"This is great news for local residents who will no longer need to do a big detour to get to work or home," Robinson said.
The three-alarm fire broke out around midnight on Christmas Eve and burned for nearly a full day at the facility at 398 Carlson Boulevard. The blaze ran the length of the roof and caused multiple roof collapses, requiring assistance from El Cerrito and Contra Costa fire departments.

Four people were displaced from an apartment unit and the Public Storage office. One firefighter sustained minor injuries.
Officials closed the roadway to protect the public from falling debris or further structural failure. Public Storage applied for a demolition permit on January 7.
