A Thanksgiving tradition: The Point Richmond Turkey Shoot
On a warm Thanksgiving morning, throngs flock to Pt. Richmond to embrace much loved tradition: The Point Richmond Turkey Shoot.
No turkeys are harmed in this annual celebration, but they are welcome to come along if they wish. At least a hundred people and many families with kids and dogs join in the silliness that is the decades-old annual tradition, which starts with a gathering at the Plunge. On the signal, the group begins heading out processional style through the historic neighborhood until they reach a particular stop where all wait patiently for the reading of a poem.
The poem is said to gain a verse each year, and at its conclusion, the group promptly down a shot (or two) of Wild Turkey or cider. A good time was had by all on this particular Thanksgiving morning as the crowd slowly dispersed and people headed off to their individual celebrations. Another successful Turkey Shoot is in the books, and many will eagerly await the next year's event.
