What happened in Richmond: Body found in water near Canal Boulevard and an attempted murder reported

An unidentified person was found dead in the water near Canal Boulevard on Saturday, as Richmond police logged an attempted murder, vehicle thefts and robberies between May 11 and May 17.

Assault with a deadly weapon: 800 block of 7th Street. A person was attacked with a weapon at 1:42 a.m.

Vandalism: 2900 block of Gilma Drive. Someone damaged property at 2:04 a.m.

Car theft: 300 block of W. Cutting Boulevard. A thief took it early in the morning at 6:15 a.m.

Identity fraud: 4500 block of Potrero Avenue. An identity fraud was reported at 8:35 a.m., and another was reported at 9:10 a.m.

Arson: 600 block of Ventura Street. Someone torched property at 9:56 a.m.

Vehicle tampering: 2500 block of Gaynor Avenue. Someone was found tampering with a parked vehicle at 12:27 p.m.

Robbery: 1400 block of Bissell Avenue. A person was relieved of their belongings by force at 3:30 p.m.

Theft of vehicle parts: 200 block of S. 12th Street. Someone helped themselves to parts off a parked car at 3:36 p.m.

Residential burglary, vehicle tampering: 2600 block of Hilltop Drive. Someone broke into a home at 4:34 p.m.

Vandalism: 800 block of Dornan Drive. Property was damaged at 5:20 p.m.

Court order violation: 100 block of Seacliff Court. A court order violation was reported at 5:52 p.m.

Vehicle burglary: 600 block of South 19th Street. Someone forced their way into a vehicle at 6 p.m.

Criminal threats: 1400 block of Kelsey Street. A person was reported for making criminal threats at 8:05 p.m.

Vehicle recovery: 400 block of C Street. Officers located a stolen vehicle at 11:51 p.m.

Tuesday, May 12

Attempted car theft: 800 block of 37th Street. A crew broke into a parked car and attempted to steal it while one member stood watch with a gun drawn. They were unable to take the vehicle and fled on foot at 1:43 a.m.

Vehicle burglary: 300 block of Seaview Drive. A parked car was broken into at 4:10 a.m.

Car theft: 200 block of Collins Street. The owner returned to find nothing but an empty curb at 7:19 a.m.

Vandalism, vehicle burglary, theft from vehicle: 400 block of 2nd Street. A vehicle was broken into and stripped of property at 8:50 a.m.

Vandalism: 4400 block of Sycamore Avenue. A vandal left their mark at 9:32 a.m.

Theft of vehicle parts: 1100 block of Cutting Boulevard. A thief stripped parts from a parked vehicle at 9:36 a.m.

Vehicle burglary: 900 block of Barrett Avenue. A parked car was broken into at 10:47 a.m.

Domestic battery: 3300 block of Klose Way. A dispute at home turned physical at 12 p.m.

Shoplifting: 12800 block of San Pablo Avenue. Someone left a store without paying at 2:13 p.m.

Car theft: 1600 block of Butte Street. A thief took it off the street mid-morning at 9:48 a.m.

Car theft: 3600 block of Waller Avenue. Someone drove it away in broad daylight at 10:14 a.m.

Battery: 3100 block of Southampton Court. Someone was attacked at 10:50 a.m.

Suspicious death: 1300 block of Canal Boulevard. Officers found a deceased person in the water at 11:17 a.m. The incident is being investigated as a suspicious death, according to the Richmond Police Department. Anyone with information is asked to call RPD dispatch at 510-233-1214.
