What happened in Richmond: A weapon at school, a felon found with a loaded gun and 42 noise complaints in a busy week

According to incident data released by the Richmond Police Department, Richmond logged 14 vehicle thefts, three robberies and 100 reported incidents between June 8 and June 14, a week that included a weapon brought to Richmond High School, a felon found carrying a loaded firearm with intent to commit a felony, and a noise ordinance callout that prompted police to remind residents of the city's limits on loud music.

A note on noise

Officers responded to 42 music and party calls between June 8 and June 14, with noise abated at 17 locations across the city. Saturday night was the busiest. Calls came in from Duboce Avenue, Barrett Avenue, S. 38th Street, Florida Avenue, and more than a dozen other locations between 8 p.m. and 2 a.m. Following one call involving multiple complaints about loud music, officers confirmed the volume exceeded the city's legal limit using a decibel meter at the property line.

The department claims they enforce strict exterior noise limits: residential zones max out at 60 decibels during the day, dropping to 50 after 10 p.m. If a car stereo or portable speaker can be heard clearly from 25 feet away, it is an automatic violation. Commercial zones are capped at 70 decibels during the day and 60 at night.

Monday, June 8

Warrant arrest: Undisclosed location in 94801. Police arrested a suspect on an outstanding misdemeanor warrant at 12:44 a.m.

Vehicle burglary: 1800 block of Burbeck Avenue. A parked car was broken into just after midnight.

Obstruction, vehicle tampering, possession of burglary tools: 800 block of Bissell Court. Police arrested a suspect found with burglary tools and tampering with a vehicle at 1:29 a.m.  

Disorderly conduct: Undisclosed location in 94801. Police arrested a suspect at 8:05 a.m. for public intoxication and providing false identification to officers.

Warrant arrest: Undisclosed location in 94804. Police arrested a suspect on an outstanding felony warrant at 10:14 a.m.

Warrant arrest: Undisclosed location in 94804. Police arrested a suspect on an outstanding misdemeanor warrant at 11:30 a.m.

Car theft: 100 block of 18th Street. A thief took it at 8:47 a.m. while the morning was still settling.

Residential burglary: 2300 block of Aberdeen Way. A home was broken into at 9:40 a.m.

Fraud: 700 block of 5th Street. Someone obtained money under false pretenses at 11 a.m.

Robbery: 2300 block of Cutting Boulevard. Police arrested a suspect after a person was robbed at 1:37 p.m.

Car theft: 300 block of S. 37th Street. A car was taken at 2:07 p.m.

Illegal firearm possession: Richmond Parkway & Atlas Road, 94806. Police arrested a suspect found carrying a concealed weapon at 2:50 p.m.

Shoplifting: 2100 block of Meeker Avenue. A shoplifting was reported at 8:49 p.m.

Car theft: 3600 block of Sierra Ridge Avenue. A thief took a car at 9 p.m. as the evening closed in.

Tuesday, June 9

Vehicle recovery: 2700 block of Jo Ann Drive. A stolen vehicle turned up at midnight.

Theft of vehicle parts: 3400 block of Richmond Parkway. Parts were stripped from a parked vehicle at 12:31 a.m.

Vandalism: 5300 block of Sierra Ridge Avenue. Property was damaged at 3:06 a.m.

Car theft: 100 block of S. 35th Street. A car was taken at 6:56 a.m. 

Criminal threats: 1500 block of Potrero Avenue. Threats were made at 7:17 a.m., serious enough to bring a police report.

Weapon on school grounds, assault with a stun gun: 1200 block of 23rd Street. Police arrested a suspect after a weapon was reportedly brought onto the grounds of Richmond High School, and a person was assaulted with a stun gun at 10 a.m.  

Vehicle recovery: 700 block of W. Gertrude Avenue. A stolen car was found at 11:03 a.m.

Car theft: 100 block of W. Barrett Avenue. A car was taken at 1:55 p.m.

Identity fraud: 4500 block of Macdonald Avenue. Someone used another person's identity at 6:08 p.m.

Fraud: 300 block of S. 38th Street. Money was obtained under false pretenses at 6:28 p.m.

Assault with a deadly weapon, domestic battery, robbery: 1000 block of Canal Boulevard. A domestic dispute at 9:30 p.m. escalated to a person being assaulted with force likely to cause serious injury and robbed.

Drug possession, drug paraphernalia: Undisclosed location in 94804. Police arrested a suspect found with drugs and paraphernalia at 11:24 p.m.

Under 21, and over the legal limit.: 1300 block of Canal Boulevard. Police arrested a driver who was drunk and had assaulted a domestic partner at 6:53 p.m.

Driving on a suspended license: Undisclosed location in 94801. Police arrested a driver at 8:30 p.m., who was found to have had their license revoked for a prior DUI.

Trespassing: 3600 block of Nevin Avenue. Police arrested a suspect found where they had no right to be at 6:49 p.m.

Drug possession, drug paraphernalia: 600 block of La Paloma Road. Police arrested a suspect found with drugs and paraphernalia at 2:50 p.m.

Car theft: Undisclosed location in 94806. A car was taken at 11 p.m.

Wednesday, June 10

Identity fraud: San Pablo Towne Center, 94806. Police arrested a suspect found in possession of the identification of ten or more people with the intent to defraud at 1:01 a.m.

Possession of stolen property: Shoreline Court, 94804. Stolen property was found at 2:45 a.m.

Car theft: 3000 block of Shane Drive. A car was taken at 6:05 a.m.

Grand theft of vehicle parts: Central Avenue, 94804. Parts were stolen from a vehicle at 2 a.m.

BB device discharge: 4200 block of Fran Way. A BB device was fired recklessly at midnight.

Car theft: 1300 block of Esmond Avenue. A car was taken at 8 p.m.

Criminal threats: 100 block of Bayside Court. Threats were made at 3:41 p.m. that rose to the level of a crime.

Assault with a deadly weapon, criminal threats, exhibiting a deadly weapon: 100 block of Marina Way S. Police arrested a suspect after a person was attacked with a weapon, threatened, and the weapon was brandished at 5:11 p.m. 

Drug paraphernalia: 400 block of Civic Center Plaza. Police arrested a suspect at 6 p.m.

Domestic battery: Via Verdi & Mozart Drive, 94803. Police arrested a suspect after a dispute turned physical at 7:38 p.m.

Aggravated battery, assault with a deadly weapon: 3200 block of Pullman Avenue. Police arrested a suspect after a person was seriously injured in an assault at 8:56 p.m.

Extortion: 600 block of 36th Street. Someone made demands backed by threats at 10:30 p.m. 

Nonconsensual intimate image distribution: 700 block of 22nd Street. A person was reported for distributing intimate images without consent at 10:51 p.m.

Vehicle recovery: W. Nevin Avenue, 94801. A stolen vehicle was recovered at 10:31 p.m.

Vandalism: 2300 block of Maricopa Avenue. Property was damaged at 6 p.m.

Thursday, June 11

Warrant arrest: Undisclosed location in 94801. Police arrested a suspect on an outstanding misdemeanor warrant at midnight.

Domestic battery: 1300 block of Fred Jackson Way. A domestic dispute turned violent at 12:54 a.m.

Court order violation: 2900 block of McKenzie Drive. A court order was violated at 12:25 a.m. The same block that would see two more violations before the week was out.

Disorderly conduct: 100 block of 5th Street. Police arrested a suspect found intoxicated on drugs and alcohol at 2:41 a.m.

Car theft, vehicle tampering: Undisclosed location in 94801. A car was broken into and taken at 4:04 a.m.

Petty theft: 6100 block of Plumas Avenue. A theft was reported at midnight.

Grand theft of vehicle parts: 12200 block of San Pablo Avenue. Parts were stripped from a vehicle at 2 a.m.

Court order violation: 2900 block of McKenzie Drive. The same block, a different report, another court order violated at 10:46 a.m.

Assault with a deadly weapon, robbery: 3800 block of Fleming Avenue. A person was robbed and attacked with a weapon at 10:55 a.m. 

Theft from vehicle: 2400 block of Lancaster Drive. Property was taken from inside a parked car at 3:47 p.m.

Warrant arrest: 300 block of S. 36th Street. Police arrested a suspect on an outstanding felony warrant at 2:05 p.m.

Felon in possession of a firearm, illegal firearm possession: Undisclosed location in 94806. Police arrested a convicted felon found with a concealed weapon, a large-capacity magazine, and prohibited ammunition at 5:10 p.m.

Petty theft: 400 block of 6th Street. A theft was reported at 5:04 p.m.

Car theft: 700 block of 39th Street. A car was taken at 6:45 p.m.

Domestic battery: Undisclosed location in 94801. A dispute turned violent at midnight.

Criminal threats: W. Richmond Avenue, 94801. Police arrested a suspect for making criminal threats at 5:55 p.m.

Car theft: 100 block of W. Bissell Avenue. Police arrested a suspect after a car was stolen at 6:30 p.m.  

Obstruction: Undisclosed location in 94801. Police arrested a suspect for failing to obey a lawful order at 6:37 p.m.

Court order violation: 2900 block of McKenzie Drive. The block was back in the log at 6:06 p.m. A third court order violation.

Vandalism: 700 block of Griffin Drive. Property was damaged at 10:02 p.m.

Friday, June 12

Drug possession, drug paraphernalia: Undisclosed location in 94801. Police arrested a suspect found with drugs and paraphernalia at 12:18 a.m.

Car theft: 400 block of S. 24th Street. A car was taken at 5:15 a.m. 

Vehicle recovery, possession of a stolen vehicle: Undisclosed location in 94801. Police arrested a suspect found in possession of a stolen vehicle at 1:55 p.m.

Assault with a deadly weapon: Undisclosed location in 94804. Police arrested a suspect after a person was attacked with a weapon at 12:45 p.m.

Battery: 1400 block of Harbour Way S. A person was physically attacked at 2:07 p.m.

Fraud: 300 block of S. 38th Street. Money was obtained through deception at 7:26 p.m.

Vandalism: 200 block of 8th Street. Property was damaged at 4 p.m.

Court order violation: 2600 block of Lancaster Drive. Police arrested a suspect for violating a court order at 6:10 p.m.

Car theft: Undisclosed location in 94801. A car was taken at 7:06 p.m.

Car theft: 200 block of Macdonald Avenue. Another car taken at 8:14 p.m.

Grand theft, domestic battery: 3400 block of Richmond Parkway. A person was robbed of their property and beaten by a partner at 10:54 p.m.

Theft from vehicle: 2700 block of Sheldon Drive. Property was taken from inside a parked car at 11 p.m.

Saturday, June 13

Vandalism: 4400 block of Santa Rita Road. Property was damaged at 1:43 a.m.

Domestic battery: 2100 block of Nevin Avenue. Police arrested a suspect after a domestic dispute turned violent at 2:30 a.m.

Car theft: 200 block of 16th Street. A car was taken at 2:26 a.m. while the street was quiet.

Commercial burglary: 2900 block of Atlas Road. A business was broken into at 5 p.m.

A short-lived theft: 4100 block of Lakeside Drive. A car was stolen at 6 p.m. and recovered on the same evening at Crestwood Drive.

Assault with a firearm, exhibiting a firearm: Undisclosed location in 94806. A person was assaulted with a firearm, and a weapon was brandished at 6:13 p.m.

Exhibiting a deadly weapon, domestic battery: 900 block of McLaughlin Street. A person pulled out a weapon during a dispute at 2:21 p.m.

DUI, driving on a suspended license: Undisclosed location in 94801. Police arrested a driver, reportedly drunk, and with a license already revoked for a prior DUI, at 9:01 p.m.

Theft of vehicle parts: 3500 block of El Portal Drive. Parts were taken from a parked vehicle at 7:37 p.m.

Domestic battery, criminal threats: Undisclosed location in 94805. Police arrested a suspect after a domestic dispute turned violent and threatening at 11:47 p.m.

Sunday, June 14

Domestic battery: 3500 block of El Portal Drive. A domestic dispute turned physical at 1:50 a.m.

Grand theft, vandalism: 3200 block of Leona Avenue. Someone's early Sunday work included theft and damage at 7:06 a.m.

Felon in possession of a firearm, carrying a loaded firearm with intent to commit a felony, illegal firearm possession, court order violation, probation violation: Undisclosed location in 94804. A convicted felon was found at 10:15 a.m. carrying a loaded firearm with intent to commit a crime, a large-capacity magazine, and additional firearms, all while violating both a court order and their probation. 

DUI: Undisclosed location in 94801. Police arrested a driver who stopped at 10:25 a.m.

Vehicle tampering: 2800 block of Garvin Avenue. Someone was found working over a parked vehicle at 10:25 a.m.

Car theft: 5100 block of Panama Avenue. A car was taken at 11:23 a.m.

Court order violation: 2900 block of McKenzie Drive. A fourth court order violation on that block, this time on Sunday at 12:10 p.m.

Sexual battery: 4800 block of Central Avenue. A sexual battery was reported at 12:43 p.m.

Battery, assault with a deadly weapon: 3700 block of Nevin Avenue. A person was beaten and attacked with a weapon at 2:41 p.m.

Battery: 3400 block of Richmond Parkway. A person was attacked at 3:30 p.m.

Vandalism: 5000 block of Fleming Avenue. Property was damaged at 12:23 p.m.

DUI: Undisclosed location in 94801. A driver was cited for operating under the influence at 6:50 p.m.

Aggravated battery: 12000 block of San Pablo Avenue. A person was seriously injured in an assault at 8:13 p.m. to end the week.
