Seven guns off the streets this week, RPD says
Richmond police say officers recovered seven illegal firearms this week through proactive stops, citizen tips and the department's drone program. One suspect, spotted wearing a heavy jacket and ski mask in 85-degree heat, fled and tried to ditch a loaded gun under a parked car before being caught.

The drone helped locate two more armed suspects, including one carrying a loaded sawed-off shotgun. Officers also recovered a firearm during a possible carjacking call, seized a rifle via search warrant after an armed-subject report, and found a loaded gun in a car during a DUI stop with a blood alcohol level near 0.226%.
RPD opens substation at Home Depot
Richmond police celebrated the opening of a new substation in The Home Depot parking lot this week, a partnership with the store and the El Cerrito Police Department.

The space gives officers a nearby spot to write reports and handle follow-up work without driving back to the station, which RPD says should mean more time in the field and increased visibility in the area.
