Richmond police are investigating a fatal shooting early Monday in the 1400 block of Bissell Avenue, the city’s second deadly shooting in nine days.
At approximately 5:55 a.m. on November 17, the Richmond Police Department Communications Center received a ShotSpotter gunshot detection alert in that area. Simultaneously, multiple callers reported hearing gunfire, officials said.
Responding officers located an adult male suffering at least one gunshot wound. Despite lifesaving efforts, the victim was pronounced dead at the scene.
Richmond’s Homicide Detectives have taken over the investigation. Anyone with information is asked to contact Detective Farr at (510) 620-6622.
This latest killing follows a violent weekend in Richmond: on November 8, 20-year-old Griffin Hammond was fatally shot near Carlson Boulevard and Potrero Avenue. The Contra Costa County Coroner identified Hammond this week; police also said a second person was wounded in that incident. That shooting was reported as Richmond’s third homicide of 2025.
