UPDATE: Authorities have now cleared the area, and the lockdown has been lifted.

Richmond police responded Wednesday to a potentially armed and barricaded suspect at Florida Avenue and South 45th Street near Miraflores Senior Apartments, prompting street closures and a warning for residents to remain indoors.

The department said officers were on scene and urged the public to avoid the area due to ongoing police activity. A Mobile Command Center and drones were reportedly deployed as law enforcement worked to resolve the situation.

On social media, Richmond police posted a message asking residents to avoid the area.

"Officers are currently at the scene of a possibly armed and barricaded suspect. Please avoid the area of Florida Ave and South 45th St. Residents in that area are advised to remain indoors. Expect street closures and traffic delays in the area."

No injuries were immediately reported. Further details about the suspect or the circumstances were not released. Authorities said traffic delays should be expected until the area is cleared.
