Republic Services has announced it will resume garbage collection from residences and small and most businesses, ending the work stoppage that delayed local garbage pick-ups and frustrated residents whose bins had begun to overflow.

Contra Costa County Supervisor John Gioia said in a statement Monday that garbage will be collected, but there will not be recycling and green waste collection at this time.

"Put your garbage cart only out on the curb along with any extra bagged trash for pickup at no charge," Gioia said. "Your garbage pickup may occur on a non-scheduled day."

Republic is still allowing residents (bring proof of residency) to bring up to 4 bags of garbage at no charge to their Golden Bear Transfer Station at 1 Parr Blvd., Richmond (off the Richmond Parkway) from Monday to Friday, 7 a.m. to 5 p.m., and Saturday, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. (no bulky items or e-waste).

Gioia has also requested that Republic Services provide rate relief to residents for the weeklong suspension of trash collection.
