Richmond police are investigating the city’s fifth homicide of the year after an adult man was found shot late Tuesday night in the 300 block of Macdonald Avenue, authorities said Wednesday.
Officers responded to a ShotSpotter activation at 11:23 p.m. December 16 in the area, according to a Richmond Police Department statement. Upon arrival, officers located the man with apparent gunshot wounds. Despite attempts to provide first aid and life-saving measures, the victim died at the scene.
Homicide detectives were called to the scene and are actively investigating the circumstances surrounding the shooting, police said. Officials have not released the victim’s identity. Anyone with information is asked to contact Homicide Detective Farr at 510-620-6622.
The shooting comes amid a series of recent gun violence incidents in the city. On Saturday, police investigated a separate shooting in the 400 block of South 25th Street that left a victim hospitalized and shots fired near a local school.

In November, 20-year-old Griffin Hammond was killed near Carlson Boulevard and Potrero Avenue. Another fatal shooting on Bissell Avenue in mid-November took the life of 22-year-old Josue Cornejo.
