Authorities have identified a 50-year-old Richmond man as the victim of a fatal shooting last week on Macdonald Avenue.

Larry Russel Jr. was killed on December 16 in the 300 block of Macdonald Avenue, according to the Contra Costa County Coroner's Office. He was a Richmond resident.

Richmond police are investigating the city’s fifth homicide of the year after an adult man was found shot late Tuesday night in the 300 block of Macdonald Avenue, authorities said Wednesday. Officers responded to a ShotSpotter activation at 11:23 p.m. December 16 in the area, according to

Richmond Police officers responded to a ShotSpotter gunfire detection alert at approximately 11:23 p.m. and found Russell suffering from apparent gunshot wounds. Officers administered first aid and life-saving measures, but Russell died at the scene.

Homicide detectives are continuing to investigate. No arrests have been made.

The slaying marked Richmond's fifth homicide of 2025.
