Traffic officers from multiple agencies joined Richmond Police Department personnel in a coordinated enforcement operation, resulting in 85 citations issued across the city on Tuesday.

The operation deployed 11 officers to locations identified as collision hotspots and areas where residents have filed numerous traffic complaints. The multi-agency effort focused on combating speeding and other traffic violations throughout Richmond's streets.

Richmond Police officials said the enforcement action was designed to address ongoing traffic safety concerns and send a message about the city's commitment to enforcing traffic laws.

Emergency crews respond to crash between school bus and Subaru on Gaynor Avenue
This story was updated on May 9, 2025, at 11:29 a.m. An accident involving a school bus and an SUV at the corner of 26th Street and Gaynor Avenue brought first responders and neighbors to the scene just after 9 a.m. Friday. Neighbors say a White Subaru

The citations were issued during the morning hours as officers fanned out to target problem areas previously identified through accident data and community complaints.

The multi-agency approach has drawn questions from some residents on social media, with some expressing confusion about officers from other cities issuing citations in Richmond. One resident posted an image of a traffic citation online, questioning why Pittsburg officers were conducting traffic stops on Carlson Boulevard.

Carlson Boulevard has been the site of several serious traffic incidents. Last year, six-year-old Amadeo Alvarez Jr. was killed in a hit-and-run collision at the intersection of Cutting and Carlson Boulevards, prompting a community vigil. In December, 56-year-old Prentiss Jackson was killed in another hit-and-run while riding a bicycle on Carlson Boulevard near Bayview Avenue. Most recently, in January, three people were injured in a collision on Carlson Boulevard following a sheriff's pursuit.

On Sunday, May 18, a woman was killed in a hit-and-run in the North and East while crossing San Pablo Avenue. Police later arrested the suspected driver.

City officials said they hope the enforcement operation will remind drivers that traffic violations are taken seriously and encourage safer driving habits on Richmond's roadways.
