A former Kennedy High School volleyball coach has been arrested on multiple felony charges following a months-long investigation into alleged sexual abuse involving a student, according to Richmond police.

The investigation began September 17, 2025, after school administrators and a parent reported a suspected inappropriate relationship between an adult staff member and a juvenile student, Richmond Police Lt. Donald Patchin said.

Police identified the staff member as Timothy Logan, 49, a Richmond resident. Detectives developed probable cause to arrest Logan on suspicion of unlawful sexual intercourse with a minor. He was initially arrested, posted bail, and released while the investigation continued.

“SVU detectives continued investigative efforts, including forensic examinations of digital evidence, which led to further criminal charges," Patchin said.

On January 23, the Contra Costa County District Attorney’s Office charged Logan with two counts of committing a lewd act upon a minor, one count of arranging a meeting with a minor for sexual purposes, and one count of annoying or molesting a child. Logan was arrested again by Richmond police detectives in Antioch, booked into jail with bail set at $225,000, and remains in custody.

Logan is scheduled to appear in Contra Costa County Superior Court on February 19, 2026, at 8:30 a.m. for a preliminary hearing, court records show.

The school terminated Logan’s employment the same day the allegations were reported in September, police said.

"The Richmond Police Department is proud of the thorough work of our SVU detectives and remains committed to protecting our youth and holding offenders accountable," Patchin said.
