An accident involving a school bus and an SUV at the corner of 26th Street and Gaynor Avenue brought first responders and neighbors to the scene just after 9 a.m. Friday.

Neighbors say a White Subaru Forester and a school bus collided at the intersection around 9:11 a.m. Friday. Police have not confirmed the cause of the collision.

Nearby, resident Janis Mara heard the crash and came out to find wreckage in the street.

"I didn't see it, but I heard it," Mara said.

Mara said she didn't see who was on the school bus but overheard first responders say there were no passengers.

Emergency personnel were on scene by 9:30 a.m. and were seen treating at least one person. Two parked cars were also damaged.

Barbara Gorin, who lives on the corner of 26th and Gaynor, captured video of the crash on her security camera. Gorin said the sound of the crash was loud, and she believes speed was a factor in the collision.

"The white car was speeding, and the driver of the school bus was taken away – she was really shaken up," Gorin said. "Thank God there were no kids on the bus this time, but this is a warning shot."

Gorin said years ago, there was a four-way stop sign, and that cars regularly speed down Gaynor Avenue. "They need a four-way stop here desperately," Gorin said. "Our car was totaled right in front of the house. This wouldn’t be happening if they put stop signs back on our corner that were taken out many years ago."
