An early morning fire at Richmond's Mira Flores building has destroyed the roof and caused heavy interior damage to the more than 100-year-old structure, which is the former site of the historic Sakai and Oishi nurseries, founded by Japanese immigrants in the early 1900s.

The fire started around 5 a.m. Friday morning at South 45th Street and Florida Avenue, according to officials, fire crews arrived to find the building fully engulfed in flames. Today's fire compounded the damage caused by another fire at the site back in May, as volunteers were working in the area.

Clean-up of the area continued on Friday as firefighters remained on-site for several hours, checking for hotspots and surveying the damage.
The fire is currently under investigation.
