Downtown Point Richmond was filled with music, dancing, and food on Saturday as the Washington Elementary PTA and the Point Richmond Neighborhood Council hosted the third annual Kermés ¡Viva Cultura!

The free community event happening from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. has closed off part of Point Richmond to celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month. Visitors could ride a mechanical bull, play Lotería, shop at local artisan vendors, and enjoy a wide variety of food. Live music and dancing were featured throughout the day.

Washington Elementary is a dual-language immersion school, and organizers said the Kermés is an extension of the students’ education, bringing language, art, music, and culture into the community. The event also highlighted Spanish-speaking businesses that support the school and the surrounding neighborhood.

The Kermés began in 2023 and has become a way for the school and local families to celebrate diverse cultures while creating a space for students and community members to connect.
