# Richmond firefighters respond to 31st Street garbage truck fire

Richmond Fire Department responded to a call about a vehicle fire and found a garbage truck partially engulfed, with power lines above the truck also ablaze.

The call came in just after noon Thursday when a resident in the 900 block of 31st Street reported the fire.

Richmond Police, also responding, quickly blocked off surrounding streets to traffic and alerted Pacific Gas & Electric to the fire involving power lines.

No injuries have been reported.

A Nixlealert was sent out informing residents to avoid the area, and residents were asked to shelter in place due to the hot wire.

A hazmat crew was called to the scene to assist with the clean-up.

The shelter-in-place was lifted, and all clear was given once the vehicle was removed and the area cleaned around 3 p.m.

According to PG&E, 17 customers are currently affected as crews work to restore service, which is estimated to be sometime Thursday afternoon.
