La Korita's steak burrito cost $15.88\. Regular at the Marathon pumps was going for $6.59 a gallon. That's 2.41 gallons of gas for one burrito.

We've been gone a while. We've kept looking, but burritos are getting harder to find. Sixty stops in, we've eaten our way through most of the obvious ones.

So we went back to a place that has never let us down. The gas station.

Some of the best burritos on the trail have come from places where you can also buy windshield wiper fluid. This time it was the Marathon station at 1000 Cutting Boulevard. Here's La Korita, plus a look back at the gas station burritos that came before it.

### La Korita, Marathon station, Cutting Boulevard

There's a low white stucco building with a red stripe, a blue picnic table, and a green sign that reads La Korita, Mexican Food Estilo Nayarit. Out in the cracked lot sits a stainless steel taco truck covered in diamond plate, with the menu stuck to its side.

We are aficionados of food trucks. This one is a classic. It looks like an old Chevy P30 step van, the boxy delivery truck that half the taco trucks in the Bay Area started life as. It looks like it moves. It's not one of those trucks that has sat so long it put down roots in the asphalt.

La Korita's $15.88 steak burrito came wrapped in foil with a side packet of grilled chiles, radishes and lime. It also came with pickled jalapeños, carrots and onions, plus small cups of red and green salsa.

La Korita works two shifts. Breakfast starts at 4 a.m., according to its website, for people who have to be somewhere by 5\. Or never went home. Pupusas, tamales, burritos, oatmeal, and champurrado. The truck opens at 11 a.m. with tacos, burritos, quesabirria, tortas, and nachos. The meats are asada, pastor, pollo, lengua, birria, and tripa, plus fish and shrimp.

We ordered the steak burrito. It came in foil with a side packet of grilled chiles, radishes, and lime. Pickled jalapeños and carrots came with it, along with a red salsa and a green one.

Back at Grandview HQ, it hit the scale at about 700 grams. A big filling.

Then we cut it open, and our faces fell. Rice. A wall of orange rice. [We have been down this road before.](https://www.grandviewindependent.com/on-the-richmond-burrito-trail-la-flor-de-jalisco/)

We kept eating anyway. Soon the steak showed up in pockets. Well-flavored little strongholds holding out against the rice. There was lots of melty cheese and some pico de gallo. Beans? We don't remember any. Maybe they were in there. Maybe he forgot.

It's a pretty solid burrito for a gas station food truck. The county health department gave it the OK.

A single picnic table with blue vinyl covers is the outdoor dining area.

### El Burrito Loco, Chevron, Hilltop Mall

Our first gas station burrito, in December 2024\. You order at Register Number Two, the same place you buy cigarettes and car washes. The Chevron Burrito defied expectations with every bite. It was a super carnitas with guacamole and sour cream that melted into a spicy, creamy sauce. The rice and beans were skimpy. It needed one more scoop of each.

### Las Cabañas, United Station, 23rd Street

A shiny black trailer in the lot across from the shuttered Richmond Hospital. We went looking for the flavors of Chiapas and found them next to the gas pumps. We had the shrimp burrito with everything, grilled after it was rolled for a toasty tortilla.

### Ceci's Mexican Food, GASCO lot, Harbour Way

A gray, damp morning in December 2025\. The super chicken was steaming like crazy when we opened it back at HQ. The chicken was smoky and rich. The tortilla was a little greasy.

[On the Richmond Burrito Trail: finding heat and comfort in the GASCO parking lotThis story was first published on GrandEats! The morning had that gray Richmond wintery heaviness, not so much cold as thick, with a kind of almost-rain that just hangs, waiting, over the city. We moved with the pace of people chasing something warm, cutting through town a little too![](https://storage.ghost.io/c/53/c7/53c7637d-655b-417c-b207-9b692de9e67f/content/images/icon/logo2--3--6b4eb19c-9b86-453e-9c29-db4660409bb9.png)Grandview IndependentSoren Hemmila![](https://storage.ghost.io/c/53/c7/53c7637d-655b-417c-b207-9b692de9e67f/content/images/thumbnail/cecis-mexican-food-richmond-c768694b-b759-416d-8995-a4c2231029bf.webp)](https://www.grandviewindependent.com/on-the-richmond-burrito-trail-finding-heat-and-comfort-in-the-gasco-parking-lot/)

Pull in hungry. Leave full. Don't forget to pay for the gas.
