# Martinez thanks Richmond, congratulates Jimenez and Anderson as mayoral bid ends

Mayor Eduardo Martinez issued a statement Wednesday thanking Richmond residents and congratulating the two candidates who will compete for his seat in November, marking his first public remarks since finishing third in the June 2 primary.

“I would like to congratulate the two successful candidates who have advanced to the November election, Claudia Jimenez and Ahmad Anderson,” Martinez said. "I wish them both the very best as they continue their campaigns and seek to serve the people of Richmond."

Martinez, who has served as mayor since 2023, reflected on his years in office and addressed whoever succeeds him.

"To my successor, I hope you find the same fulfillment and sense of purpose that I have experienced while working alongside the dedicated staff of our City," he said.

Martinez said he intends to remain engaged through the end of his term. "As I continue serving through the remainder of my term until January 2027, I look forward to working with our City staff, community partners, and residents to keep advancing the work Richmond deserves," he said.

Martinez closed by calling his time in office "the honor of a lifetime."

Jimenez and Anderson will face each other in the November 3 general election.
