Richmond Fire Department responded to a vegetation fire on Nichol Knob in Point Richmond on Saturday evening, which has already scorched approximately four acres.

Fire crews are battling the 3-alarm blaze that started near Dornan Drive, and they are receiving additional help from the air by way of helicopters attacking the fire from above.

By 9:15 p.m., the forward progress of the fire had been stopped, according to a city-issued Nixle alert.

"On-scene Incident Command has declared forward progress has now been stopped with extensive mop-up continuing throughout the night along with firewatch," the alert said.
